At The Brilliance Lab, our mission is to build bold, brilliant, and people-first leaders across fields. We do this by offering one-to-one and team coaching, and strategic leadership development engagements.
People-first leaders focus on their own and their teams’ well-being as a top priority, leaning in fully to compassion, care, mutual respect, and trust. It’s not just about being a supportive leader; it’s a strategic approach to driving results and making desired impact. Becoming an effective people-first leader may require coaching or other interventions to build and sustain your and your team’s skills, particularly in a professional world that is always evolving. Because we know that “change is the only thing that is constant,” The Brilliance Lab strives to provide nimble services that meet individuals and organizations where they are in their ever-changing careers and contexts. That means we are primed to support individuals who are new to leadership, looking for a new career, or simply desire a boost in their leadership journey.
We provide services for organizations looking to build more people-first leadership teams or HR staff. We place special emphasis on offering support for new and mid-career professionals (especially women) who are often looking for ways to unlock their full leadership potential, cultivate confidence, and navigate their careers with clarity and purpose.
Through personalized one-to-one coaching and strategic guidance, we help our clients identify professional goals using a step-by-step method to determine any known obstacles, and then develop systems and strategies to move clients through, around or over those obstacles skillfully and realistically to achieve results! Our aim is to build and highlight leadership brilliance, develop valuable and impactful skills, and foster healthy, high-functioning working environments for every client.
About Carol
Greetings! I’m Dr. Carol Hedgspeth, Founder and Lead Coach at The Brilliance Lab. My goal is to support individuals, teams, and organizations in taking their leadership skills to the next level.
In my career spanning over 3 decades, which started in academia and continued to and through small and large nonprofit organizations, I’ve had the honor of supporting leaders and change makers across fields. Along the way, I’ve seen just how much brilliance exists — especially among women of color — in organizations, and also how often that brilliance is overlooked, undervalued, or underestimated.
At The Brilliance Lab, our goal is to coach and support leaders at early-and mid-career as they navigate their way through career transitions, changing landscapes in their fields, and common leadership challenges of the professional world. My coaching approach is accessible and goals-oriented, using easy-to-use tools, systems, strategies and resources.
Through one-on-one and team coaching, leadership development engagements, and related operations supports, my mission is simple: to help clients step into their leadership authentically, confidently, successfully, and brilliantly.
Offerings

One-on-one Leadership Coaching
- Ideal for professionals needing direction, goal-setting, or major career decisions.
- You have the expertise and know-how in your field. The Brilliance Lab will coach you through taking the next step to become an effective, authentic leader aligned with your personal values and intentions.
- We’ll set goals appropriate for and aligned with your specific needs, and create a strategy for achieving those goals, identifying any blind spots or barriers along the way.
- You’ll understand what your current strengths are and how to leverage them to get to the next level.
- We’ll intentionally and explicitly discuss the larger context of your professional experiences so that you are able to confidently navigate any diversity, equity and inclusion issues (for example, being the “only” in your team or field) as or if they arise.

Peer Coaching and Learning Cohorts
- Sign up to remotely join a 10-person cohort of other emerging leaders that is facilitated by an expert leadership development strategist.
- Participants initially join as strangers, and leave the program with a diverse and authentically bonded network devoted to people-centered leadership.
- Each cohort meets remotely (via Zoom) once a week for six consecutive weeks to discuss topics like:

Leadership Coaching for Teams
The Brilliance Lab offers ad hoc (or one-time) and ongoing coaching for teams to work together to achieve career-related and leadership goals.
- Team coaching sessions could look like a facilitated group workshop at a team retreat, or regular and ongoing team sessions where we set, monitor, and achieve team goals.
- Teams set common goals and work towards them collectively, often providing an opportunity to gain wisdom from a coach as well as validation from individuals experiencing the same professional and organizational circumstances.
- Team cohorts may be based on one or more individual characteristics (e.g., gender, race, gender and race, etc.) to provide the safest space possible for vulnerability and open sharing, which is often unavailable or impossible to build in the workplace.
- The Brilliance Lab offers support for characteristic-based teams in anchoring diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging into the fabric of their work and culture.

- Resume review and optimization
- Ideal for someone wanting a low-touch but high impact support in moving from the career you have to where you want to be.
- Includes resume revamp, LinkedIn optimization, and job search strategy session(s).
